Kim remembers 2006 BRR

My adventure in the 2006 Blue Ridge Relay can be described in one word: awesome. It was one of the top running experiences of my life.

Why was it awesome you might ask? Well, it was awesome because I met some great people, I got to observe some beautiful mountain scenery, and I got to push my body to its limits. I went through an array of emotions through the two days. I was nervous to meet my team and run my legs. I was scared running in the middle of the night when I didn’t know where I was. I was satisfied pushing my body to new challenges.

Here are some memorable moments of my 2006 BRR experience:
  • Showering and attempting to sleep in the most repulsive motel that I have ever seen. Surfaces were greasy to the touch and stains covered the bedspread, carpet, and couch. The pieces of the couch-bed created a jumbled nightmare, which may have kept that form to this day. I can’t be sure.
  • Running my ass off in the early night hours to make it to the next check point. I feared the speeding traffic that boxed me in against a guardrail. As cars approached, I was blinded by their bright lights, hoping that the exchange zone wasn’t far off. I finished my 3.3 miles as quickly as possible.
  • Finishing one of my night legs only to find one of my teammates snuggling in the back seat with my blanket. It was cute, but I was cold.
